A WORD FROM
THE CURATOR
"Here we go again, a second try, the first official attempt, in the form of issue number one. Our first attempt with the carnet Gardens and Gardening enjoyed its fair success, having no single copy remained. Our intention here is similar to that of last time, to amass different materials we find beautiful but have no way of exploring in the pages of the main publication, something that would sadden us in the long term... The present issue had as a starting point the arts de la table but soon evolved to include materials linked to food itself and the places where it is gathered, purchased and cooked, and other variations have joined the party as well. We hope — “we” because although I assume the title of curator here, the SR Carnets are, as usual, a joint creation of Diogo Mayo and I — that the reader will feel, to put it humbly, amused by what we have collected, both through picture and text, and that their wandering eye is satiated. On a different personal note, I’d like to acknowledge here the recent commemoration, that goes hand in hand with the publication of our new issues during November 2021, of ten years of shared life with Diogo, after having met in person for the first time in early 2011 with the intent of discussing the very first fashion story of Scala Regia #0, photographed at Queluz Palace. I’d like to thank him for having offered me the chance of exploring my creativity in different ways and mediums, that has culminated so far in the creation of these Carnets. May the next Carnet come that we already have a few ideas in line!" — Pierre Roffe
